COLORING BOOK DRIVE AT
SLEEPY HOLLOW MIDDLE SCHOOL
In the month of February, Maddie, a 7th– grade student on Team Narwhal at Sleepy Hollow Middle School is collected coloring books and crayons to benefit children at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester County Medical Center. Coloring with crayons is proven to help relieve stress in these young patients. Maddie hopes her community service project will match coloring books and crayons with young patients to reduce their stress. Please consider dropping off new or unused coloring books and/or crayons at Sleepy Hollow Middle School’s main office. Maddie thanks you in advance for your support.

Congratulations to three of Sleepy Hollow Middle School’s current sixth graders who placed in the top three positions in The New York State Archives Research Contest last spring. This project was an Enrichment project that was run through Washington Irving’s Challenge ELA class. Students were required to come up with a research question and answer the question using as many primary sources as possible. An independent panel of judges in Albany, chose the winners based on presentation, use of historical records, and ability to answer the research question. The winning projects were:
– Samuel Leviatin (2nd place) – How did Steinway and Sons Pianos Directly and Indirectly Impact the Queens Neighborhood In Which It Is Located?
– Rachel Atlas (tied for 3rd place) – Saving Horseman’s Trail: What Hurricane Sandy and Basic Neglect Did to This Sleepy Hollow Trail
– Isabella Ruiz (tied for 3rd place) – John D. Rockefeller, Jr: How Much Did He Depend on His Father for His Own Success?
Well done! We are very proud!
