The chess program at W. L. Morse and Washington Irving schools is a lunchtime enrichment program led by The National Scholastic Chess Foundation (NSCF), a non-profit educational organization with years of experience teaching chess in schools in our area. Classes are geared to beginner and advanced beginner levels. Students learn the moves and basic strategies by lecture, reinforced by supervised games. Advanced beginners learn all facets of tournament play. The Horsemen PTA administers the chess program.
Classes are held during lunch/recess, and your child is able to eat lunch while playing chess.
Enrollment is limited to 20 students per class. Classes will be filled on a first come, first served basis. To register, please download and complete the appropriate form linked below. Please return the form to your child’s teacher.
