Can YOU find the Gingerbread kids?

Gingerbread kids are coming to Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow! Take a walk with your elementary school child and participate in the PTA’s Gingerbread Scavenger Hunt Dec. 5-13. More information in flyers below. Full details about this free outdoor activity, including the list of participating neighborhoods and guidelines for entering our raffle, will arrive via email. Donate to PTA/A Nu Toy Store Holiday Toy Drive

Looking for a way to help our community’s children this holiday season? Please consider donating a toy to the Annual Horsemen PTA/A Nu Toy Store Holiday Toy Drive benefitting the Open Door Foundation. New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at A Nu Toy Store on Main Street in Tarrytown through Dec. 13. Suggested toy value is $20. Toys will be distributed to Open Door patients age newborn through 14. Please see these flyers for more information, and thank you for your support!

Congratulations to our membership raffle winners!

TUFSD parents and PTA members Kerry Salvatierra and Sweta Keswani are the winners of our 2020 membership raffle! They each received a “distance learning” basket complete with items for their students to use while learning at home. Each PTA membership registered before Oct. 30 received one raffle entry. “No Cook Wednesday”: PTA Food Trucks Fundraiser Nov. 18

Take a night off from cooking and grab your dinner to go with food trucks brought to you by Horsemen PTA!

Food trucks will be available on Wednesday, Nov. 18, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the John Paulding School parking lot. Please note registration is required for a spot in line. Click here to register.

Please note this event has been rescheduled from Nov. 11 to Nov. 18 due to a forecast of heavy rain! We are rolling over registrations from Nov. 11 to Nov. 18. Please change your sign-up if you require a different time slot for the new date!

Here are the trucks that will be attending:

Physical distancing and face masks required. This is a grab-and-go event—please send only one member of your family to wait in line, and please register for only one person regardless of the number of trucks you would like to visit and number of meals you will be taking to go.

20 percent of proceeds will benefit our schools via the Horsemen PTA.

Photo Days are Here!

We did it: Photo Day is ON this year. Get those smiles and special outfits ready!

Here is the Photo Day schedule by school. Remote-only students can choose to come to the school for an appointment to get their photo taken before returning home to continue their school day; please refer to communication from your teacher in Google Classroom to sign-up for a time slot and to learn more about the safety measures that will be in place. Hybrid students, please look out for flyers coming home from PTA in student folders for complete information, including safety precautions. Please note class pictures will be compiled by Irvin Simon via editing together individual photos; no class pictures will be taken in the interest of our children’s and teachers’ safety.

No photo package information or payment will be distributed or collected prior to Photo Day this year, so don’t worry when you don’t receive the envelope you’re used to. Calling all WI Students: Enter the PTA Halloween Essay Contest!

WI families: We are pleased to announce a new PTA contest!

What if Trick-Or-Treating could be saved this year?

Washington Irving students are invited to write a persuasive essay explaining creative ways that trick or treating could be done safely with health precautions. Students can also choose to write a persuasive essay offering alternative ways to celebrate Halloween safely.

Rules:

  • Entries must be 200-word persuasive essays.
  • Entries are due by October 17 at 8 p.m. Submit via email to: communication@horsemenpta.com
  • Entries will be judged by their creativity, composition and originality. Judged by PTA.
  • Essays are not a part of classwork. Students can choose to write in their spare time.
  • Three winners will be chosen:
    • 1st prize – LICKS gift certificate $20
    • 2nd prize – Halloween craft supplies
    • 3rd prize – Two bags of Halloween candy

Please note: The villages have not made decisions yet regarding trick-or-treating. Winning essays will not be a deciding factor on village rules. We understand that this contest cannot influence each family’s decision for Halloween.

Here’s our Updated 2020-21 PTA Meeting Schedule

Please refer to the meetings page on our website for the accurate 2020-21 PTA meeting schedule. All meetings will take place virtually and in the evenings this year. Meetings are working sessions for the board and membership, and all are welcome to attend. You must be a dues-paying member to vote. We hope to see you there!

Please note this year’s PTA meeting dates and times were initially submitted for the district calendar last spring and are no longer accurate. This year’s meetings will NOT be held in-person at the Administration Building.

For years, guardians and teachers alike have expressed an interest in an online school supply ordering option. Now, that option is here!

The Horsemen PTA has partnered with teachers in grades K-8 to post each grade’s 2020-21 supply lists on SchoolToolBox.com

HOW: It’s easy. 

  1. Go to SchoolToolBox.com and create an account. 
  2. Search for your child(ren)’s school by name.
  3. Select their grade(s) for 2020/21. (Morse guardians, note that Dual Language lists differ from the other grade lists.) You do not need to know the teacher’s name.
  4. Select all or some of the required items. Select all or some of the suggested items.
  5. Consider donating to the PTA.
  6. Your supplies ship to your home.
